Wellness Wednesday: How to Pamper Yourself for Pi Day

Pi Day was created to celebrate a mathematical constant, but most people celebrate in a much more delicious way: by enjoying slices of pie. We have some ways you can whisk up DIY beauty treatments, and pamper yourself with ingredients found in different kinds of pies. The date March 14th matches up with Pi, or 3.14. This mathematical constant has to do with the measurements of a circle, but many people bake or eat pies to mark the occasion. Traditional pies include some seriously yummy ingredients (we are thinking about you, sugar and chocolate). After you enjoy a slice of your favorite pie, set aside those extra ingredients, and raid your cabinets, to whip up these DIY beauty treatments.

  1. Buff out All of the Rough Spots With This Pi Day Sugar Scrub
Almost all traditional pies feature plenty of sugar. Whether it is white sugar, brown sugar, or something alternative like coconut sugar, you can use sugar to make a luxurious and exfoliating scrub, to make your skin glow from head to toe. For the base, mix 1 cup of sugar with ½ cup of an oil, such as olive oil or melted coconut oil. Then, you can add in other ingredients. If you want a stimulating scrub for your morning shower, add in some coffee grounds or a citrus essential oil, such as lemon. For a calming evening bath, add a few drops of lavender essential oil. You can keep the extras in an airtight mason jar. Sugar scrubs like these can exfoliate and moisturize your skin, and leave you feeling silky smooth.

  2. Nourishing Egg-Based Hair Masks
Which came first, the chicken or the egg? While we are not sure the answer to this question, we can tell you that eggs can not only be used for pies, but also for a nourishing Pi Day hair mask. You can use the whole egg, just the yolk, or just the egg whites, depending on your particular hair needs. Egg whites contain most of the protein found in the food, but can also help remove unwanted oils from your hair, while egg yolks contain most of the fats and other nutrients, and can add moisture to your locks. Start with your egg base, then check your cabinets for other ingredients to give you luscious locks. Options can include olive oil, aloe vera, yogurt, and honey. Mix them altogether, and leave on your hair mask for at least 20 minutes, before rinsing it off with cool water (to prevent any egg from “cooking” or getting stuck in your hair).

  3. Sweet & Calming Vanilla Spritz
Some types of pies call for a dash of vanilla, but the fragrant extract can also be used to make a homemade Pi Day body or room spritz. You can use vanilla extract, or also vanilla essential oil (which wouldn’t go into an actual pie). Simply fill a spray bottle with water, and add your vanilla extract, a little at a time. Test your spritz out, until you have created a scent you love. If you can, use a dark spray bottle for this spritz, and store in a cool, dark place. Vanilla extract is like a vampire, it can be sensitive to light and heat. But you may never need to turn to store-bought sprays again, thanks to this little homemade Pi Day spritz.

  4. Restorative Chocolate Face Mask
Chocolate can make an appearance in many kinds of pies, but it also makes an appearance in some spas around the world, in the form of beauty treatments. The good news is, you do not have to shell out for a spa, instead, you can create a luxurious Pi Day face mask right at home. The darker the chocolate the better, as it’s chock-full of antioxidants and caffeine, which can nourish and restore tired skin, and leave you glowing (you can also use cocoa powder). Warm the chocolate for your base, then throw in some other ingredients. Options can include moisturizing coconut oil, vitamin-packed bananas, or exfoliating sugar. Leave on the mask for 20 minutes before rinsing it off, and maybe sneak a few licks of the bowl while you wait.

You deserve to be pampered this Pi Day, and it can be easy to throw together a luxurious beauty treatment with these ingredients laying around the house. If you do give these DIY beauty treatments a try, we would love to hear your thoughts, so leave us a comment. And if you are really into the math behind it, you can memorize as many digits of Pi as possible, while you kick back and let your beauty treatment work its wonders.
